This is a kid friendly event. There will be a popcorn machine and face painting. There is no admission and the food is free. We will be raffling off baskets and prizes as well as a 50/50 All proceeds will go to Response of Suffolk (find info below) for Suicide Prevention and community outreach. With the current financial climate coupled with budget cuts, this amazing organization does so much with so little. Please help!

I just posted the evite last night and already have gotten a great response. Thanks to all who have offered to help. I want to particularly thank Sweetleaf Boutique and Ellen Gershowitz of Coldwell banker who immediately offered donations without me even asking them!! Please everyone - if you know of any business that you deal with, your hairdresser, grocery store, nail salon, ask them for a donation! Thanks!

Response of Suffolk - Fundraiser

This is from their literature so that people can know about this great organization and why it is imperative that we help them.

RESPONSE of Suffolk County, Inc. is a community-based not-for-profit agency that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs and services to the community in order to reduce the risk of behavior that could lead to self-injury, suicide, or harm to others. Our 24-hour hotline receives over 20,000 calls each year and our support line program provides over 6,000 telephone “visits” to individuals who are homebound or have limited social support due to physical disability or mental illness. Our online crisis counseling program, Hear2Help, targets teens and young adults who feel more comfortable reaching out online than on the phone. In our adolescent suicide prevention program, educators reach out to middle and high school students throughout Suffolk County to educate and heighten awareness about suicide risk and resources available.

RESPONSE also functions as a centralized point for after-hours crisis and emergency calls for the Probation Department, Suffolk County’s Clinic Treatment Programs, Town Youth Bureau’s, the Long Island Railroad, Victim’s Services agencies, as well as many mental health agencies and private therapists. We are the area network center for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and we are accredited by the American Association of Suicidology.

Please know that any contributions to RESPONSE will go directly to support our crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs and will be instrumental in helping us further our mission of adolescent suicide prevention. Thank you for your anticipated support.

We will be having a special event to raise money for Response of Suffolk and to raise suicide awareness. There will be lots of great prizes, food, and many wonderful people joining together for this worthwhile cause. Thanks so much. I am sure with your help we can make this an incredibly successful event. Suicide is a pervasive problem in today's society, yet it remains a taboo subject to discuss. We need to bring it out in the open so that people can understand that it can happen to any family. We are all at risk. I urge you to support this great cause.
